McDiarmid was born in Perth, Western Australia.[1] On 26 November 2022 at Gillman Speedway in Adelaide he won the Australian Under-16 (250cc) championship, having won the Victorian championship earlier that month.[2]
McDiarmid won the Western Australian Championship in 2024 and retained it in November 2025 at Pinjar Park, winning all four of his heats and the final, with his older brother Jack finishing second.[3]
He began his United Kingdom career with Oxford Cheetahs in the 2025 season[4] and rode for Northampton and Oxford in 2026.[1] In Poland he signed for Falubaz Zielona Góra for the 2025 season.[5]
After narrowly missing automatic qualification in a run-off at the Debrecen qualifier, McDiarmid was selected as a permanent wild card for the 2025 SGP2, riding with the number 27.[5] He scored 17 points and finished 14th.[6] In 2026 he qualified for the series[7] and finished 13th with 18 points.[8]
