Slater Lightcap (born August 28, 2005) is an American motorcycle speedway rider. In 2026 he became the first American to receive a wild card for the Speedway Under-21 World Championship.[1]
Lightcap was born in Long Beach, California[2] and grew up in Huntington Beach.[1] In 2017 he won the AMA National 150cc Youth title and the AMA/FIM Mini 150 Silver Cup. He became the US Under-21 champion in 2021, turning professional in September of that year. He finished second in the US National Championship at Costa Mesa in 2023 and 2025, and won the California State Championship in 2024.[3]
He made his SGP2 debut as a reserve in Toruń in 2024. His first full European season came in 2026, riding for Zielona Góra in the U24 Ekstraliga and for Griparna in the Allsvenskan, with four-time world champion Greg Hancock acting as his mentor.[4] He also rode for Gniezno in 2026[2] and in August 2026 signed for Poole Pirates as a replacement for the injured Fraser Bowes.[5]
In the 2026 SGP2, riding with the number 28, he scored 30 points (11 in Målilla, 12 in Łódź and 7 in Vojens) and finished seventh.[6]
